'Be Careful What You Ask'

READ: Luke 6:38 (NIV)

One winter a farmer had to pay triple what he usually paid for hay. As he fed his livestock, he carefully doled out every blade of hay, making sure none was wasted. As he subsequently prayed for a plentiful spring, he also prayed for the wild deer, who, like him, were experiencing a harsh winter. God answered in an unexpected way! The deer began to eat his hay. No matter how he covered the hay, the deer always managed to find it. How ironic! Earlier he had prayed for God to give them all something to eat and now he was asking to do so in a way that would be of no cost to him. How ashamed he felt how many times he has asked God to meet a need that he was unwilling to help with. God had used those deer to teach the farmer to put his money where his mouth was!

REFLECT ON THESE QUESTIONS...

1.When have you prayed for a particular kind of weather?

2. Have you ever had an experience like the farmer's, when  an answer to a prayer surprised you by its effect?

3. What reminders of God's provisions  have you seen in the last few days?

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Asking is easy; giving is much harder.
